g.l.a.m.

It's one of my best friends wedding weekends. As I was browsing through old photos one of my all time favorite girly songs came to mind, by Fergie. Glamorous. You know you love it! This song doesn't define our friendship but outlines the fun surrounding it. Truth be told, we were a tad ridiculous fun hilarious fabulous glamorous silly in our prime several years ago. Tons of good memories, and more to come.

Wishing you all the best of weekends, filled with silliness, glamour, laughter and love for your mommas.

Friday This and That

Y'all made this post too easy for me: I love it when you have questions about something I post and I can provide some answers. I realize I'm not the best at getting back with answers, but I am trying to be better, I swear! Also tells me what y'all are really interested in!

-My Lace Peplum Top...

The most flattering peplum top I've found. I never thought I would be able to wear this style, period. It is stretchy which makes it a whole lot more flattering than a boxy shape that doesn's skim your figure. You will be seeing me in this one again soon.

-Blueberry Breakfast Casserole

You can find the recipe here. You should definitely make it this weekend.

-Pacifier Clip from Weeks' Easter Basket

My Mom picked this up at Pottery Barn Kids. They also have these other colors. Love!

What is on your agenda for the weekend? I hope we can get some things planted if the weather cooperates. Our anniversary is next week and we are scoping out a potential present to each other. How did that sneak up on us, it's been three years and we now have a baby?!

Happy Friday!
xo.

Friday Tidbits

Things I am excited about this week/coming weekend:

I have a stack of catalogs and magazines that haven't been read and that is on the tippy top of my list this weekend. I haven't even perused the checkout line magazines this week, so who knows what kind of damage is awaiting there as well. Don't laugh at my Better Homes and Gardens, it is one of my all time favorite magazines! I just renewed my subscription for $5.99/a year. If you want to do the same, I think this is the same offer. Cannot beat that.

I worked on the Dining Room {again} and I swear it's almost finished! Here is a sneaky peek of my Grandpa's sweet little bar cart.

I haven't finished all the fun here yet, but I love this framed fabric I fixed up yesterday.

I am SO hoping that my sweet dear friend Ashley has her precious baby this weekend. Rosemary, I think it's time for your debut! {especially since I will be in town this weekend ;) !!} I mentioned Ashley's "Sprinkle" in July with this amazing cupcake...

This is Ashley and I way back in the good ol' days of college:
{unfortunately, I could not crop out those beer bottles, not that we drank beer then or anything}

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Weekend Plans

Well we made it to the weekend, finally! I'm super excited to have a weekend at home {it's been quite a while since we have had one of those} and I've got lots of things on my radar. Stephen is playing in the annual member/member golf tournament, which means I am taking the time to do a little shopping in a nearby city. Folks, there is no Target in this area which means I have to drive 40 minutes to get my fix. It actually works in my favor most of the time because I don't wander in there for one thing and leave $100 poorer every week! Once I tackle my to-do list I will be treating myself to some solo time on the beach.

Also on my agenda...is everyone going to watch the Olympics? Summer Olympics are my favorite and I still remember loving the gymnastics from when I was little. I'm hoping to tune in a lot this weekend and get into it. Why not?

One thing on my list, is to finally add some fun to our chalkboard I made way back in the winter with my Mom. It's been hanging lonely and boring for months and I'm going to use these tips for spiffing it up.

And a deep thought for the day, go out and be happy this weekend! I admit that sometimes my thoughts venture on to the negative side but I really have been trying to be better about that lately. This is perfect.

Happy Weekend! xoxo.

Boat Day Essentials

I wanted to share some inspiration for our night on the house boat, but really these essentials could double for a picnic on the beach or an afternoon boat ride. A little planning ahead and we are good to go with yummy pasta salad and snacks, the best kind of summer music and something comfy to change into later. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Road trips, Cake and House Boats

Morning friends! I am all sorts of scattered today as the kitchen is a disaster post birthday celebrations, clothes are waiting in the dryer (only the third time I've restarted it) and washer, and we haven't packed our bags for another wedding weekend in Raleigh. In case you missed it, I was just on this same road trip on Tuesday. An added bonus, Stephen and I both have to drive {keeping the gas industry alive} since my car needs to be worked on in Raleigh next week! Sigh...no pinning while hubby drives this time around!

I had to share this labor of love birthday cake that I made for Stephen. I made it last year as well and he requested it again, so I think we are working on a tradition. It was in Martha Stewarts magazine last summer and I have to say it is delicious. Nothing is better than a cold slice of cake on a hot summer day, and add in chocolate chip cookies = perfect.

I break this cake down into a three day process.
Day 1: Bake 8 dozen cookies
Day 2: Assemble the cake and let it sit overnight in the fridge
Day 3: Add whipped topping and chocolate shavings and serve!

Ingredients
4 cups cold heavy cream
8 ounces mascarpone cheese
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon whiskey (optional)
8 dozen chocolate chip cookies (2 1/4 inches, baked until crisp)
Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Directions
Whisk 3 cups cream and the mascarpone in a chilled bowl until soft peaks form. Add sugar and whiskey. Whisk until medium-stiff peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to use (or up to 3 hours).
Arrange 9 cookies in a circle (with cookies touching) on a cake stand or a plate. Place 2 cookies in center. Carefully spread 1 cup cream mixture evenly over cookies, leaving a slight border. Repeat to form 7 more layers, ending with cookies (you'll have a few cookies left over). Refrigerate, lightly draped with plastic wrap, overnight.
Whisk remaining cup cream until soft peaks form. Spread over top of cake just before serving. Garnish with chocolate shavings.

Here are a few shots of the cake along the way...sorry for the horribly embarrassing bad photos!

YUM!

Lastly, I am thrilled because I rented a house boat for Sunday night {part of the birthday present} and we get to stretch our weekend a little longer! We will be staying on an island and watching the sunset {perhaps a sunrise as well} and living it up house boat style!

What do you have planned? Y'all have a great weekend! xoxo.

West Bound

We are in Raleigh already and headed west to Asheville, NC for the next several days. I am hoping to escape extreme heat (fingers crossed), shop lots, and enjoy great times with my fam. On top of that, we are celebrating my Grandma's 90th birthday!! We are all so excited to celebrate such a remarkable birthday. Visiting the mountains in the middle of summer is the perfect escape too!

And if you are curious like me, you can check my instagram feed between now and then. If you haven't already, find me at missdixie30. I would love to follow back!
See you back here next week...xoxo.

Elderflower Cocktail + Weekend

We may have started our weekend a night early. I went out for a drink with my friend and was delighted to try the Elderflower cocktail on the menu. SO good, seriously. I now know what the big fuss was about. I took a photo of the board in hopes to be able to recreate it at home. (What a cute board too, the drink above it was called honey bourbon) I am all about a no fuss drink- the less ingredients the better. After cocktails, the hubs and I had dinner on the waterfront.
Fun little Thursday evening it was!

We are off to Raleigh this afternoon! Hope everyone enjoys a beautiful summer weekend! xo.

Friday Finds: Happy Weekend

1/ 2 / 3 / 45 / 6

Notice that bubble necklace again? I think I really need it in white now.

Hope your weekend is full of sweet summertime delights (it's already summer here, by the way).
I'm making it a point to take the beach cruiser out for a ride and I can't wait! xoxo.

Drinking a little of this.....

Having fun with a craft I've been wanting to do for a while...

Weekend Getaway

1/2/3/4

I am so excited to be taking a little getaway this weekend to the mountains of North Carolina with both Stephen's family and mine. While the men play golf and watch afternoon football, we are planning to tour the Biltmore, eat fabulous food, go shopping of course, and hopefully squeeze in a wine tasting! Hope you all have a great weekend scheduled as well! xoxo
