Summer House List

I'm sorry for the lack of posting over here, y'all still with me? To be honest, the One Room Challenge pretty much did me in and I've been catching up and more importantly, slowing down over the last few weeks. I feel like I have had things I've wanted to post but just haven't had the time or energy to do it. I know I still have some One Room Challenge details to share on some last minute projects, so look for those soon. Also...I am still in l-o-v-e with my new bathroom.

While I don't have any big projects slated for summer 2015, I still have those little, fun, hopefully high-impact projects looming in the back of my mind. Things that might take an afternoon or so, and leave me with a big smile!

I want to stencil the laundry room. I did afterall, buy this stencil last summer. It has been waiting around  for the perfect time. Originally I was thinking a navy and white, now I am thinking more this color blue...or maybe a shade lighter than grassy green? Help!

I have some drapes that have been waiting around to be hung and I would like to do either an acrylic rod or the industrial diy....While I am at it, I would love to do one of those treatments in the dining room as well. I think we will try it first in our master and then venture to the dining room later!

The rug in our living room needs to be replaced, even though I bought it last summer. It had great reviews, but my family of three plus two canines must be really rough and tough on it. We do spend a lot of time in the living room over the den. I swear the dogs have found some sort of scent on it too, because occasionally they will just start rolling on it/into it. So strange. Not to mention if there is a mishap/stain...its impossible to clean. There have been plenty of those and it's just no longer acceptable. If I have enough strength, Stephen might come home to it laying out by the curb ;) I'm over it! Anyway...a new rug {no natural/jute fibers} would really freshen it up in the living room. I have some extra fabric that I might make into some pillows too. Don't hold your breath :)

Well, that's enough for now. I told myself these were going to be little projects, right?

We have a busy but fun summer ahead, and that time with my family will come first and foremost. Anything you want to hear about on here? Feel free to leave me suggestions in the comments. And, let me know what you have up your sleeve this summer! xo.

Five for Friday: Memorial Day!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Happy Memorial Day Weeekend y'all! I hope you all have a fabulous time relaxing, enjoying some time outdoors, cooking some wonderful food...and of course, don't forget what the weekend is all about. How beautiful is this photo above? Our flag is truly, such a sight to behold.

TURKEY BURGERS WITH ZUCCHINI

We made these Turkey Burgers with Zucchini several weeks ago and they are a total keeper! Added bonus, you get a veggie added in your burger, making it even leaner than your average turkey burger. I like to top our turkey burgers with a spicy greek yogurt dressing, recipe below.

GREEK YOGURT DRESSING:
-1/4 cup reduced fat plain greek yogurt
-Cumin
-Sea Salt {or kosher is fine}
-Pepper

Season yogurt with cumin, salt and pepper to taste. I add a lot of cumin, I love the flavoring!

INDIVIDUAL KEY LIME PIES

These look like the perfect treat to top off a weekend cook out. They sound so refreshing, not heavy. Find the recipe here Individual Key Lime Pies.

CHIC ENTRY

In honor of the holiday weekend, how chic is this Red White and Blue Entry? I love the ginger jar in the mix, of course. But I am obsessed with the mirror, lamps...the chandelier peeking down....well, I guess everything!

DEAL ALERT

This is TOO good of a deal not to share! I've been searching for my go-to sandal and these are them. They are on sale, plus an additional 20% off. If you are a loyallist member, you always get free shipping, no minimum {so awesome}. If you are a member of ebates, {here is an invite!}, you can get 10% cash back. That makes these sandals an investment of around $100...pretty good for a brand new pair of Tory's to last you all summer long!

Linking up today with April for Five on Friday!

Nordstrom Sale Picks!

Sorry for the back to back shopping posts, but as you probably know, the Nordstrom half yearly sale just started and as usual there are great deals to be had! I know I've mentioned it before, but I view these sales as a great opportunity to purchase a higher ticket item or investment piece at a great price. I rounded up a few of my personal favorites below. What do you have your eye on?

SANDALS
I have these in a similar version from several years ago and still love them!

A classic, tan sandal that would be a staple in your summer to fall wardrobe.

You can't go wrong with Tory on this price. Gold is my choice for metallic sandals, always.

HANDBAGS

I am loving this soft color that reads as a neutral. It is beautiful, right?

You absolutely cannot  go wrong with the fun scallop design on this tote. I could carry all of my belongings in this one, and add Weeks' stuff in there too!

Another smaller option in this beautiful color. I might be a new fan to the crossbody, hands-free style!

DENIM AND CLOTHING

Ok, the most flattering denim award clearly goes to this pair! I'm obsessed. If you haven't tried DL1961 you need to now.

Another great skinny pair by DL 1961...love.

Is this not such a fun maxi? I love that it isn't skimpy and you could wear it so many places.
Love the price too.

This would be a beautiful dress for a special wedding or shower! I love the vibrant green against the pink.

Zella is my favorite workout wear and I love this tank. I always stock up on Zella at Nordstrom sales!

Adore this black sweatshirt...make sure you check out the back detail. Zella does such a great job making workout wear affordable and cute.

Can't wait to hear your picks!!

Bohemian Chic

nydj top
I got this top about a month ago and have been wearing it ever since! I knew it was cute when I got it, but I have received so many compliments on it. It is a great fit and a decent price for a quality top! If you follow me on instagram {@missdixie30} you may have seen me wear it to the Eric Church concert several weeks ago.

rubina boho navy top
I love the pattern on this one and the silhouette looks like it would be really flattering. It would be so cute with light denim shorts, and you can definitely transition it into fall later on with dark denim!

embroidered crinkle chiffon {extra 20% off with code DOUBLE}
A classic white top but with a fun embroidery design. This one looks really lightweight {key!} for our climate. I don't have enough white tops, I am always running to my closet looking for one and coming back empty handed! They are hard to find, no?

embroidered peasant top
In love with this sweet, simple style. Fabulous price too.

off shoulder peasant top
I love how fun this top is! The colors are perfection and I like that it is a different style than the norm. I would wear it with white jeans and gold wedges for a cute outfit for a dinner date. So, so cute, and also an amazing price.

tambourine jersey t
I love the relaxed, boho feel of this. Something you can wear everyday, as seen above, with denim cutoffs, or even dress it up at night with a fun necklace.

 embroidered tassel blouse
Another great embroidery design, and I love the tassels of course!

Are you all feeling the relaxed vibe like me? It screams summer, and since I am usually more casual than not, it fits in perfectly for my style! I would love to hear your latest finds...anything pom pom, tassel, embroidery! Happy Tuesday...xo.

Easy Recipe: Chicken and Mushroom Skillet

I had planned for another post today, but decided to switch it up since I haven't done a recipe in a while. We have been so busy lately we have hardly had time to cook. After how busy we have been, it almost overwhelmed me when it came to getting back into the swing of meal planning. Then, I thought about enjoying summer evenings versus being inside cooking for a long period of time...it made me make a choice. Let's make it our goal to keep meals simple at dinner so we can enjoy the summer. I'm sure I will get an urge every now and then to try new and delicious recipes, but for the most part I want to keep our summer menu easy and fresh!

This is not neccessarily a summer meal, but definitely one you can enjoy year round. I absolutley love that there are only a handful of ingredients and one skillet! So rare to come by. I would say it is pretty healthy, and filled us up with out any other sides. And, major bonus- it is perfect for 2 people!

EASY CHICKEN AND MUSHROOM SKILLET

INGREDIENTS:
2 boneless chicken breasts {original recipe uses skin on, I just used regular chicken breasts}
Kosher Salt or Sea Salt, to taste {I used Kosher because I had that}
Black Pepper, to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
8 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1⁄2 cup water
1 tbsp butter
1 green onion, chopped, for garnish

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Season both sides of the chicken with salt and black pepper. Heat olive oil over medium / medium-high heat in an ovenproof skillet. Place chicken in the skillet and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Turn chicken over and add mushrooms. Increase heat to high and cook, stirring mushrooms occasionally, until the mushrooms shrink slightly, about 5 minutes. Season mushrooms with a pinch of salt.
Place skillet in the oven and cook until the chicken is no longer pink, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer chicken breasts to a plate and loosely tent with foil. Set aside.
Put skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Cook and stir mushrooms until brown bits start to form on the bottom of the pan, about 5 minutes. Pour water into the skillet and bring to a boil while scraping the brown bits off the bottom of the pan. Cook until the water is reduced by half, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in any accumulated juices from the chicken into the skillet. Add butter and stir constantly until the butter is completely melted and incorporated. Season with salt and black pepper, then spoon the mushroom sauce over the chicken and garnish with green onion.

When we keep dinners on the simple side we can enjoy walks like this after dinner, and for that I am thankful.

Wishing you all a good rest of the week!

One Room Challenge: BATH REVEAL

It's here! The reveal day of the One Room Challenge. If you are just joining me, here is a quick rundown: we decided to transform our hall bath that was in desperate need of updates. We have re-done the cabinet doors, added new faucets, lighting, hardware, mirrors and tile floor, and planked the walls.

You can catch up easily right here:

I am thrilled at how our hall bathroom came together after a lot of time, hard work and thought. It definitely changed its course as I waffled back and forth on some design decisions, but I couldn't be happier. I love the mostly neutral scheme, balanced with the metallics and textures. The pop of pink is of course, my favorite, but as the little man gets older I won't mind changing it up to blue.

Ok, enough with the small talk...lets get to the pictures!

As a reminder, here is what the room looked like:

It's official- I'm ditching our bathroom and I only want to get ready in here now! I knew it would all be worth it in the end, and it totally is. Thank you Linda, for your encouragement and giving us all the push to tackle these rooms ~ I am thrilled with our bath and still enjoying our den makeover from the fall.

And most of all, thank you to my awesome husband for sticking this one out with me during quite possibly the busiest month of the year for us! I'm heading over to check out all my friends as they debut their rooms here and here
