Body After Baby

Several weeks ago I was cleared for resuming exercise, something I have been looking forward to and also, not looking forward to at the same time! At 30 weeks, I was put on modified bed rest after having several contractions in an hour during a non-stress test. So, needless to say, it has been quite a while since I worked out- the longest stretch I have ever gone before! I have to say, I really didn't miss it while I was pregnant. It was more of a relief that I had the perfect excuse not to incorporate a 30-60 minute workout session into my day. Instead, I spent time with Weeks, lounged, worked from my computer, decorated a nursery, RESTED and prepared for our baby girl's arrival.

Fast forward to one month post partum, I was really getting the itch to add back some physical activity. At that point I still had about 10-12 pounds to lose, and I was more than ready to kiss them goodbye. {For this pregnancy I gained about 25 pounds, with Weeks I gained somewhere around 23 I believe}. I wasn't really sure what kind of workouts I wanted to go for, but I ended up trying out barre3 which has been very enjoyable for me. I was a little hesitant on how out of shape I was, but I am happy to say it has been ok on me and each workout has plenty of modifications if needed. Holding a full arm plank is the area that could use the most improvement at this point! I am also adding in the occasional treadmill session to change it up. I would love to take the kids for long walks but it is just so dang hot outside, that isn't happening for any of us. I am much looking forward to that capability come fall and cooler temps. I can already tell some differences in my muscle tone with three weeks of barre and I am thrilled over that!

I would love to hear how other Mama's got back into shape after baby and how long it took. I know it is a delicate balance if you are nursing/pumping with your food consumption, and there really is no bargaining there. Most days I am absolutely starving by meal times so I am adding in protein snacks in between {a must for me!} and giving my body what it needs.

You can sign up for barre 3 online classes here. The online workouts are my best option right now as I am squeezing them in as children allow, right in the comfort of my own home. You also get the luxury of choosing the length and area of focus for each workout, and there are so many to choose from. It's really been nice for options. PS- I am in no way being sponsored by barre3, just sharing my experience. I also purchased this workout on amazon which is done by the creator of barre3, which I absolutely love and can flip on with my Roku. Not only is it a fabulous workout, but the setting is beautiful and sort of "takes me away" for that session, if you know what I mean.

Here are some of my workout faves since they are big inspiration to get myself moving!

wrap hoodie is this not so cute! // shorts because we will be wearing shorts in NC for quite a while // hooded jacket a great layering piece for early fall // nikes love this colorway and it's a great time to purchase // leggings mentioned these must haves plenty of times, they are the BEST // high waist crops I love the fun print on these // sunglasses polarized and chic for outdoor activities

Pregnancy Favorites

pregnancy favorites

These are always helpful to me so I wanted to round up my tried and true favorites from this pregnancy. Every pregnant woman wants to avoid stretch marks like the plague and so far I have lucked out again. My skin is always on the drier side so I don't know how it's managed to do this well with no stretch marks for 2 pregnancies {come on baby girl, let's not start that now!}. My morning routine includes the mustela cream {such a good cream, pricey but WORTH it} and at night I use the coconut oil. It is a pressed oil so just scoop a little out, warm it up in your hands and put it on.

Sometime this winter I broke out in dry patches on my sides, which ended up being eczema after a visit to the dermatologist. Good news: my skin looked great for my yearly checkup! She recommended always using a good body soap like Dove {not a place to skimp}, and then within three minutes of getting out of the shower I must put on a cream- {no lotions or anything coming from a pump}! This cerave was her choice and I am hooked. Good for anyone, pregnant or not, and my dry skin issues are resolved on my body. That is a great feeling!

I tried lots of maternity jeans and AG was my favorite this pregnancy. The legging jean is so comfortable and flattering, and the belly part is not too low which was my complaint about so many other brands. I have the Hailey shorts and they are just as amazing! My advice is to invest in a good jean or short {or both, in my case} depending on what season you are in. Take them off at the end of the day and wash and wear them again, over and over! Fit is key.

I never found a true favorite maternity legging this time around, which was disappointing. I had my issues with each, and nothing compared to my love: the live in legging by Zella. I am still wearing these at 33 weeks, stretching the heck out of them, but they work! Nothing sucks you in like Zella, and I stand by that! Since summer is coming up, the capri version would be another pick.

I have had so many allergy issues, colds, and even a stomach bug this pregnancy. Combine all that with getting up to use the bathroom numerous times a night...you get a tired Momma. Thankful for my eye cream that combats those dark circles better than any other eye cream I know of. Yep, I'm a consultant and I swear by it. I'm happy to chat if you have questions. Whether Rodan + Fields annoys you or not...it works.

I have loved these boyfriend t-shirts for days when you could care less and just want to throw on a t-shirt. These work instead of having to go through my husbands drawer for one!

There are a few other fun items that have been a big part of baby #2 like Zantac, Tums and Sprite. Also worth mentioning, I really wanted a pregnancy pillow to work out for me but I just did not like the feeling of confinement with the shape of the pillow. I like to be able to move and the pregnancy pillow made that more difficult. Instead, I found a firmer {think, cheap} regular size pillow that I could use to support my side. I know so many women swear by the pregnancy pillows, it just wasn't for me!

If I'm missing anything, send me your favorites to make these last 5 weeks go smoothly!

Pregnancy Exercise: What Works For Me

There have been some similarities and lots of differences in my pregnancy with Weeks vs. my pregnancy with baby girl. I don't necessarily believe that boys make a pregnancy one way, or girls another, but I tend to just think they are all different! With Weeks, I had a few weeks of being tired but for the majority of the pregnancy I was abounding with energy and was pretty darn good about working out regularly.

This time, baby girl is waving her finger at me saying "uh uh Momma" every time I turn around. For the first few months I was so sick. It started out with allergies and morphed into a horrendous sinus infection. After about 7 weeks of misery, I was finally awarded with an antibiotic that felt like a trophy to me. During that time, working out was at a bare minimum which was hard on me because I love to be active and exercise. It has been a normal part of my day for so long I cannot remember, I just feel better and for the most part, enjoy it! I've had a few other little pit stops along the way that have slowed me down, not to mention tending to a toddler which of course I didn't have the first time around! Taking care of another human being plus the one in your belly is exhausting! I have no idea on Earth how my Mom did this with four kids!

Anyway, I wanted to share what maternity exercises I have enjoyed each pregnancy and a few others that I have heard of. With Weeks I gained around 23 pounds and lost almost all the weight within about 4 weeks, which was a total surprise. I was also pumping most of those 4 weeks around the clock, which I would give credit to the quick weight loss! After the weight loss, I was still not in pre-baby shape and I worked hard to get more toned. This time I think I gained a few more pounds earlier on and then evened out to where I am tracking somewhere along the same lines as my first pregnancy. I rarely weigh myself except at doctor visits and occasionally in between. Having a bathroom renovation has kept the scale out of sight!

Workout Schedule with Weeks:
Pure Barre Prenatal One 2-3 times a week
Walking or Elliptical Machine 30-40 minutes/ 2-3 times a week

I was faithful to my PB workout for my first pregnancy and definitely thought it helped keep my body toned under all the fluff of pregnancy. It was a challenging workout, to be sure, but not overboard. I alternated my video with early morning trips to the gym or long evening walks with the dogs.

Workout Schedule with Baby Girl:
10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates {40 minutes total} 2 times a week
Walking or Elliptical 30-45 minutes/ 2-3 times a week

Besides my energy level, I would say the biggest difference in this pregnancy vs. my pregnancy with Weeks has been my body re-adjusting to the growing baby. Maybe because I am three years older this time around or maybe it is like my doctor warned me: your body remembers being pregnant and to expect a few more aches and pains with the second. I totally did not take that warning seriously! For the last half of the first trimester and to the middle of the second, my body totally felt the growing pains. I was uncomfortable sleeping and I had low back pain. I am happy that I found the pilates workout because the stretching and toning is really phenomenal {my exaggeration, but it really has made me feel SO much better} If you are having a hard time sleeping or having back pain, try this workout because it was a game changer for me when I was going through a rough patch! It is divided into 5 10 minute segments, so you can pick and choose which ones you want to do if you are low on time. I usually do 40 minutes because I have a hard time wanting to workout longer or don't have the time! I also stream it on my Roku via Amazon, so it is a breeze to click on. We have a treadmill upstairs that I run up to squeeze in several times a week first thing in the morning, unless the weather is nice and Weeks and I go walking.

A few other workouts I have heard about, but have not tried:

I am going to try this soon actually! My Mom and sister do their workouts regularly and I am wanting to try something new, within reason.

I have used her other workouts before but not the prenatal version. Anyone had success with it?

Another barre workout that has had good reviews. Anyone tried this?

What are your favorites if you have been/are pregnant? I exercise to make my body feel good, and that is genuinely the biggest benefit to me. I have to say that the combination of low impact cardio and a toning workout is what I have found to keep my body in the best shape. Every pregnancy is different, every body is different...and just remember what amazing thing your body is doing while pregnant! So worth it:)

Pregnancy Style 2: Current Favorites

Let's go ahead and file this post under "I need a wardrobe intervention". Yesterday was one of those days. I had nothing to wear. Everything seemed like I had already worn it 54829 times. And, all of my yoga pants were in the wash. Oh, the horror.

I decided since I am almost to the third trimester {YAY!!} I will absolutely have to break down and get some things for Spring and early Summer. Like any mother-to-be, I certainly don't want to spend a fortune on maternity clothes, but I also highly suggest that Moms treat themselves too and not feel like a drowned rat {sorry!} every day with the same old, same old {or worse, wearing something that looks 2 sizes too small!} I scoured, and I mean scoured for some cute maternity stuff for us ladies. Here are the current picks. It looks like Spring is just starting to roll out, so we can expect more of a selection soon.

These are another option for the white shorts, but at a higher price point. I have a pair of white AG maternity jeans and they are the best fit I have found. If you are looking at going through the whole summer pregnant, I would think an investment in one good pair of shorts would be well worth it.

Maybe my very favorite find of all. Today you can take an additional 40% off making it quite a deal. I would snatch this up not pregnant if I saw it!

I think I will order this and see if I want it in every color! I bought a grey muscle tank from Gap last summer and wore it constantly. Such a good basic for being around the house, running errands and not feeling sloppy.

So those are my current finds! Please share if you have found some new favorites as well, y'all have pointed me in some great directions for maternity and pregnancy items so far! xo.

Outfits Lately // Crazy Winter Weather

What a week! I haven't had a chance to post a worthy picture yet on instagram, but we started demo on the master bath last weekend. We are up to our ears in projects and decisions but I hope to get y'all a quick update soon! We ended up doing all new sheetrock and removed all the lighting so we are working with a task lamp right now. I ordered a bathroom fan/light combo and I hope it gets installed early next week so we can feel like humans again in there!

Anyway, I've been taking some snaps of outfits lately because I have had some requests for that in the past and I am always curious to see how people dress throughout their pregnancies. It really is not a simple thing {as any Momma knows} and some days are total leggings and sweatshirt days for me. The other days I have been mixing in mostly regular clothing with a bit of maternity too. I feel like I have gravitated more towards buying maternity pieces this time over making my existing wardrobe work, just for the simple fact of wanting to feel good. I was sick for what seemed like months in the beginning and I knew I would need clothing for late Winter and into Spring and Summer. Practically all the seasons!

This was on Tuesday: twenty two weeks, three days!

I just got this blouse and I LOVE it. Good news is, this is NON-maternity and so adorable. I went up a size and it is plenty big for me with room to grow as well. The pattern is a pink and green, and it feels so fresh for rounding out the end of winter and saying hello to Spring. I can't wait to wear it with white jeans! By the way, I will be breaking them {maternity style!} out so very soon.

I'm still wearing my favorite leggings ever, even though I am probably stretching them out. They are by far the most flattering I've ever tried and I'm cool with buying more next year! I have 2 pairs and I wear them for pilates or with regular outfits like here! :)

Our roller coaster weather continues here in North Carolina. Two Sundays ago, we were basking in the sunshine and enjoying brunch with a water view. I pulled out my new espadrilles {find them here or here} for the first time and I can't wait to wear them more as it warms up! They were really comfy, but I think I might get a heel insert since the jute is pretty much the only support on the footbed.

Espadrilles // Jeans {similar} // Fringe Wrap {similar}

Later that afternoon, it turned breezy and cloudy, but we still took Weeks out for a little wagon ride around the neighborhood {with blankets in tow!}

On a very rainy day, I fully enjoyed being able to keep dry with my Hunters...seriously, I am so over the rain and we have had SO much of it! Bright red boots certainly made things a bit cheerier that day. I got this blouse for Christmas and it is fabulous for feeling put together when most maternity wear is full of stretch and spandex...this gives me a sense of polish!
{Note: I would recommend going up a size for room to grow, especially since it does not have as much stretch as most maternity tops. Looks like you can take 25% off as well!}

Boots // Blouse // Jeans {similar} // Handbag

A few other items to note: I have been wearing the heck out of my Burberry Quilted Jacket because I feel like my heavier coats are not comfortable with more layers and don't seem to fit properly. Luckily, this jacket has been all I have really needed thus far for pretty mild temperatures. I also got a new pair of black leggings after reading April's rec here, and I will be trying them out today!

Pregnancy Style 1: Current Favorites

I thought it would be fun to do a feature every now and then on pregnancy style. I swear there are even much better options now than there were three years ago, and at affordable prices! I really don't mind buying some maternity clothing because this is a time I want to feel as good as I can in what I am wearing, whether that means buying something with a "maternity" label on it or not. Truth is, I think once you really have a bump you need the length of maternity tops, unless you are wearing a tunic style or oversized. Right now, I am still wearing most of my regular clothing but I am slowly adding in things here and there.

So on a normal day at home, I am wearing something really similar to this:

 {I own this pair of similar tennis shoes, similar and SO comfy!}
I just ordered these leggings because I could use a pair for every day of the week...that is all I really want to wear #sorrynotsorry! I also own these leggings {not maternity, flattering, BEST ever!} which are still fitting fine, although I'm sure that won't last much longer than a month, or two, if I'm lucky.

pregnancy style

I see the chambray shirt as being a real work horse in your maternity wardrobe! It would be perfect to wear now with leggings and then wear it into the Spring with white jeans or even shorts. I just picked this tunic on a Target run yesterday and I love it! It is so soft and the color is actually so much prettier in person, right on point for this seasons hot blush color. I lived in the Gap Pure Body tops with Weeks, and I have already bought a couple for this time around too. Get them in all your basic colors for easy everyday tops and for layering. Trust me, they are amazing.

audra maternity dress, more sizes here, in navy here
This dress is so cute!! You cannot beat this LBD. It would be so nice to have one dress you can change the look with accessories from statement necklaces, to a scarf to dress it down, to tall boots or even heels! It also comes in navy for those that don't need black!

Perfectly preppy with adorable red stripes. Totally looks like something I would wear pregnant or not. I love this and would wear it now through Spring and Summer.

Any other pregnant readers out there with some favorites for me?

Baby Weeks: Our Birth Story

I promised this a long time ago and finally have it all written down. Sometimes I didn't want to share it, and then sometimes I felt like I should. This was the hardest thing I have ever written, but at the same time very therapeutic as well. Just a warning, this is not your typical birth story {if there is such a thing} so it may not be something everyone wants to read. Before we get to the story, here's a little background info on the few weeks leading up to March 7, our baby's birth date.

I am very fortunate to have a very flexible job schedule, and I had been coming home early each afternoon, usually by about 3:30-4:00 each day. This was nice. I came home, called my Mom, relaxed on the sofa and we usually chatted until Stephen got home from work. It was a nice little relaxing routine to put my feet up at the end of the day and take a break before dinner time.

I had started going for weekly appointments at week 37, just as most standard pregnancies go. The day before I hit 38 weeks, I returned and had my first cervix check, which proved to show that I was only 1 cm dilated and there was no mention of any effacement at all, so I'm assuming I was probably not effaced very much, if any at all. We left the doctors office feeling good about a nice healthy checkup and told ourselves that we had a little more time to go waiting on our sweet baby. Of course, just like any other parents-to-be, we were hoping that it could be sooner than later that our boy would arrive. Little did we know that would be the very next day.

That same Wednesday night we had an appointment with a potential pediatrician. We had two in mind and it just so happened that when I called {our now} pediatrician, I got the appointment made with ease- no waiting on the phone, no call backs, just an easy appointment scheduled. When I called the other pediatrician, I got disconnected from them and took it as a sign to try out the other pediatrician first. We met with our pediatrician for a consultation that Wednesday and loved him. Decision made.

Also, on that busy Wednesday, we had our last childbirth class where we were able to ask questions with another pediatrician in the area and also tour the hospital. Lots of things got finalized this day- pediatrician- check. Hospital tour- check.

Thursday morning came around and it started out just like any old normal day. For a little while that morning I had some light back pain and a little stomach cramping. As far as I knew, these were all normal signs that things were starting to "progress" and move along, preparing my body for labor. I took a long lunch break that day and lounged on the couch for a little longer than usual. The cramping had stopped and I returned to work for the afternoon. That day, I followed my normal afternoon routine- get off work, call Mom and head for the sofa. Mom and I were busy in our usual conversation as I relaxed. We were just about to get off the phone- she had some things to work on and I had to go to the bathroom. In the last minutes of our conversation I felt a little pressure on my bladder- nothing abnormal, babies press down especially later on in pregnancy. The next few moments went by quicker than lightning but at the same time felt like an eternity.

I was about to hang up the phone- we were saying our goodbyes as I got up off of the couch to head for the bathroom quickly. Much to my surprise and terror, as I walked toward the bathroom I felt this urge {what I briefly thought could be my water breaking} and as I looked down I saw blood dripping through my black yoga pants. I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough as I told my Mom "oh my gosh Mom, I'm gushing blood." This was no slight bleeding, this was full on terrifying blood leaving my body that I had absolutely no control over. My Mom shrieked "What do you mean your gushing blood, from where?!" That is how quickly it happened- it just was so shocking it was hard to believe what I had just told her over the phone. She quickly told me to call my doctor and she would call Stephen.

Hands shaking uncontrollably, I was able to scroll through my phone and call my doctors office. After about 10 seconds of a phone message telling me to press 1 for this, press 2 for that, I hung up. I couldn't even comprehend what was on that message line- I needed to talk to someone. I dialed 911 for the very first time in my life and told the operator what was going on. I was 38 weeks pregnant and had just started bleeding uncontrollably. She told me that a crew was dispatched and headed my way, they would be there in just a few minutes. As she asked a few questions, Stephen was trying to call me non-stop. FYI, you can't switch back and forth between 911 and another phone call. I didn't know where he was but I assumed my Mom had gotten in touch with him since he was persistently calling. After just a few minutes, Stephen got home and came to our hall bath room where I was bawling, shaking and terrified. Coincidentally, he had left work a little early and was really close to home on his way to run an errand. He reassured me that everything would be ok and for me to calm down. We would make it through this, whatever it was.

Within another minute, the EMS crew arrived and hurried to check me out. They looked for my vital signs which proved to be okay and surveyed the situation. All I remember is telling them to check my baby, check my baby. Was my baby ok? He had just moved minutes ago on the couch when I was chatting away on the phone. The EMS leader had his stethoscope and was trying to listen for our baby's heartbeat but was not able to tell me if he could hear a heartbeat or not. A stethoscope is not necessarily strong enough to pick up a baby's heartbeat. I begged and pleaded him to keep trying, which he did. He calmed me as best he could. I remember seeing the pained look on everyones faces looking down at me, everyone seemed so helpless in that moment. Next thing I knew, they had the stretcher pulled down our hallway and they helped me onto it. The very end of our hallway leads to Weeks' nursery and I remember looking in there thinking I would never be able to step foot in that room again if the worst was happening, which is what I feared. Stephen asked what I wanted him to bring to the hospital and I just replied, "My purse." I couldn't bear the thought of bringing our packed hospital bags along for the trip if we wouldn't need them.

Once in the ambulance, I was hooked up and continued to be monitored. Another EMS worker tried as well to listen for a heartbeat. I studied their faces so hard trying to tell if they really knew something or not. One EMS worker that was feeling my belly and told me he could feel movement, which was reassuring. Our house is only a mile away from the hospital, a quick 3-4 minute ride. The longest ride of my life. They probably thought I was crazy because I was incessantly asking them to drive faster and listen for my baby at the same time.

The best part about being picked up in the ambulance? They were in contact with labor and delivery on the way to the hospital and I was able to be taken directly in there instead of a pit stop in the ER. After we made our way down many hallways to get to labor and delivery {again, I was asking them to go faster, faster, faster} we finally arrived to where we could check our baby out. They immediately put the fetal monitor on...and thank GOD, our baby had a strong heartbeat.

Our baby was okay. He was perfectly fine. He had just as strong of a heartbeat as he ever did. The biggest relief of my entire life.

Once we knew the baby was ok, the doctors quickly tried to determine the cause of bleeding. After briefly mentioning a clot and asking how much blood was passed {I wasn't bleeding anymore at this point} my doctor {the same one that I had seen the day before, happened to be on call} checked my cervix. Upon doing this, more blood was coming out. They decided it was a placental abruption and told me I would be having a c-section immediately.

A placental abruption? I barely remembered hearing about that in childbirth classes. It is when the placenta tears away from the wall of the uterus, causing pain and bleeding. It can happen before labor or during, and is an emergency situation. Sometimes the babies are okay, sometimes they are not. Never thought it would happen to me though. I probably worried about every other scenario imaginable besides that one.

What happened next is kind of vague to my memory. There was a rush of different nurses attaching IV's, someone taking my blood, a million people asking me questions. After that was all taken care of, I was wheeled down to the OR and prepped for surgery. Luckily, since Weeks was not in danger and had oxygen, we had time to have a spinal epidural. If his oxygen supply had been compromised and his heart rate was low, I would have been taken into surgery with a general anesthesia. I was happy to be awake, even if I was more scared than ever in my life.

Stephen got dressed in scrubs and I got fixed up with my spinal, and as soon as I was numb the doctors were ready to move. The anticipation of those few moments was absolutely awful. However, the team of doctors was so amazing. I will never forget how wonderful the anesthesiologist was. He calmed me and was giving me words of encouragement the entire time. Specifically, he mentioned how cool it was that I would be meeting my baby in a matter of minutes, where some women wait hours and days to meet theirs. A nice thing to hear in a moment like that! He also took Stephen's phone and snapped pictures throughout the entire process- if he wouldn't have done that neither Stephen or I would have thought to taken pictures in such a crazy time.

Knowing I was being operated on was a little uncomfortable for me, but in that moment you suck it up and be strong for what has to be done. I remember in childbirth classes our teacher saying that you never know exactly how a delivery will go. Things come up unexpectedly and you do whatever it takes to get your baby in this world. I remember thinking that during the surgery- whatever it took to get him here, in whatever way our story would unfold- it would be all be ok as long as he was in my arms.

Stephen was by my side talking to me while the doctors worked to get Weeks into the world. Our pediatrician that we had just met with the night before happened to be on call as well. Within moments, I heard the sweetest most amazing sound in the entire world- my baby cry. It was the most surreal moment of my life I am sure! He was quickly checked over and our pediatrician told us he looked great and healthy. The anesthesiologist made sure that I got to see my baby, kiss him and get some photos before Weeks was taken to the nursery and I was taken into recovery.

Weeks was born at 5:47 pm, weighing 6 pounds, 10.5 ounces and 19 inches long. Since I was talking on the phone with my Mom when the abruption occurred, we were able to determine what time it happened. From the moment of the abruption to the time he was born was 62 minutes. Record breaking delivery time!

While Weeks was in the nursery with Stephen, I went into recovery and finally into my room where I waited just a little while until Stephen came in with our baby. Our family was now a family of three and all were safe and sound. It was the biggest relief to sit in that room knowing that. At that point, I got my phone back from Stephen and called my poor Mom. I had not talked to her since that terrifying moment when I told her I was bleeding. Stephen kept her and the rest of my family in touch the entire time, but she said she never felt ok until she heard my voice on the other end of the line. My parents were almost in town and would be at the hospital shortly.

For the rest of our hospital stay, things went really well. I made an amazing recovery from my surgery, not even needing most of the pain meds the doctors prescribed me. The nurses couldn't believe how well I was getting along, especially in spite of such an emergency situation. Weeks was perfectly healthy other than some slight jaundice which he got treated for our second night. Stephen really stepped up to the plate as a new Daddy- having to take care of all the diaper changes, and swaddling since I was in bed from surgery. He learned quick! On the third day, both Weeks and I got the OK to head on home. We couldn't have been happier.

I feel like a part of me always wondered if I would do the right thing in an emergency situation and have that urge to react. Turns out, Mommy instincts are there before your baby is even born. I am so thankful that I had that instinct and courage to dial 911 and get help immediately. If I wouldn't have, there is no telling what the outcome of that day would have been. I talked to different doctors and nurses, and they told me that I reacted the best way possible and not necessarily everyone does the same. My one piece of advice...trust your instincts, and when your baby is on the line you cannot act quick enough.

I have replayed that day over in my head about 10,000 times already. I've questioned so many times why Weeks had to be born this way. It was the scariest day of my life, a true test of my entire being. Why couldn't he have been a baby bouncing in this world a day or two early, or even late? Why I had the abruption, we do not know. There are a few risk factors but I didn't have those. I asked several doctors in the hospital and they explained this can be just a random thing. All I know is that this is our story, and at the end of the day, my baby is here and healthy.

To say I am thankful for my baby's healthy delivery would be an understatement of a lifetime. I have thanked God over and over, and over and over again that we have our baby with us. Not everyone that has an abruption has the happy ending that we do and we are forever grateful. We are certainly lucky in love with this little guy.

If you made it this far- thank you for reading!

Third Trimester Essentials

Third Trimester Essentials

I wanted to share what was essential to me for my last trimester of my pregnancy. I enjoy reading these lists and always find them useful, so I hope this can help someone who is expecting or plans to be in the future.

My favorite leggings that I wore way, way too much were these Be Maternity leggings from Target. I think I might have worn them every other day at one point? I ordered a size up because I can't stand leggings that are the tiniest bit too tight. I actually threw them away last week because they were so picked and worn I couldn't bear to look at them anymore! Ha!

I was active my entire pregnancy, but I didn't start the Pure Barre DVD until the very last trimester. I swear this kept me in great shape. I can go into more detail on fitness if anyone is interested, but this is key!

It gets really old ordering a plain water every time you dine out, so I started drinking sparkling water to make me feel a little more special. I bought it to enjoy at home too, and had it almost every night towards the end. Calorie free and ups your water intake for the day!

I used Mustela Double Action Stretch Mark Cream every night starting in the second trimester- it smells so good and seemed to do the trick! It is pricey and I'm still using the last of my bottle. I also rotated with Johnsons Baby Creamy Oil and Coconut Oil.

Snacking was big for me and I love these Ritz Cracker Snacks- with a little bit of peanut butter for a tiny protein addition, and of course chocolate doesn't hurt for a sweet fix. They are so good and easy to throw in your bag.

I wore a ton of scarves to mix up my outfits that seemed to be on repeat every week. Lilly Murfee scarves are my all time favorite and I have accumulated quite a collection. They instantly polish and brighten an otherwise plain outfit.

Those are my essentials for the last trimester of pregnancy, to make things just a little better as you await your little one! To see my list of essentials for the second trimester, see here. What were your pregnancy essentials?

xoxo.
