Fall Into The Holidays: The Bedroom

This week we are back with another post on prepping ourselves for the holidays ahead. I have to tell you all, I plan these posts ahead (hence, why I was able to do the post last week when my son had just gotten out of the hospital from pneumonia!) so, I have had plenty of time to soak up that new pantry. Let me tell you, that little pantry is our #bestlittleprojectever. It wasn't overwhelming and it made the biggest impact in our kitchen, we are positively obsessed. Anyway, thats what this series is all about. Take a little thing and make it worth its weight in gold!

This week we are tackling the bedroom, and I have to admit, I was a little stumped at first. In years past, I would change a few throw pillows out on the bed, long after I finished decorating the tree and prepping the downstairs. Our bedroom is almost always an afterthought (something we are slowly changing, bit by bit!) not only for seasonal, but for just everyday life.  I have never been able to settle on the "perfect" design for it, so I have decided to go the slow route and do it bit by bit, piece by piece as it all comes together. You know you need some decor in your bedroom when your husband says "Can we hang some stuff on the walls?" ha!

After being stumped on what in the world I would do, I had an a-ha moment on the most simplest of things to do. This "project" won't take you five minutes and will leave your room feeling so much cozier.

I love the idea of bringing the outdoors in, with greenery, flowers, branches and plants. I do this all the time downstairs- in the kitchen, breakfast room, living room, you name it. I realized I would love to add that element into our bedroom as well- enter the boxwood wreath! These are a great size for a standard window. I just grabbed one of my favorite ribbons from my rather absurd ribbon stash to hang them on. It's not too Christmasy- but definitely perfect for the season to come. If you want to go ahead and hang a wreath in your home now, I would recommend choosing a ribbon in festive colors with out bold prints- something you can stand to see for the next few months :) Instant charm, and instant cheer for the holidays to come!

On the main window, I hung the wreath right from the drapery rod. Our other window is a dormer, and this wreath makes it the cutest little corner ever! We just hung this one right off of a nail.

I want our master to feel airy, fresh, relaxing and clean. This tends to make me gravitate towards lots of shades of white. Adding in the greenery from the wreath warms it up a bit, along with our sweet little gingham sheets! Can't get enough of those. I swear they make the best sheets! I think they lend themselves so well towards the current season too- Christmas they are perfect for red/green festiveness...spring and summer they work great with coastal and floral pairings! The embroidered pillowcases were an estate sale find. I kind of feel like granny-chic with them but I adore embroidery! Don't think I am really old and outdated ok? ;)

At the foot of our bed, I keep our down duvet and this throw blanket that is perfect for keeping warm in the cooler months. Actually, I take that back- I use this throw every single day of the year it is THAT good. Put it on your Christmas list! Not only is is soft but it is so warm and cozy, and is machine washable. In the summertime I just prop it over my feet!

One more thing that I love to do while getting ready for the holidays, or every few months... clear. the. clutter. We are prone to it,  won't deny it. We just got these refinished nightstands about a month ago and still had not taken the time to organize them. I moved my most frequently used items off the top of the nightstand into the top drawer- pen, notepad, journal, devotional and latest book. I'm glad I actually took a few moments to clean up my nightstand, the results are worth it!

I really enjoyed sprucing our room up a bit in the most simplest of ways. Lisa, thank you so much for asking me to join in on this :)

Big Boy Room Update

We are finally starting to get some things accomplished for Weeks' Big Boy room, which feels so nice. That is totally necessary in order to get the nursery empty enough to start on it. I feel like we are really behind and it's time to kick things into high gear!

First off, I hit some snags. The one inch check that I fell in love with was backordered until late February and I patiently waited. Then it was changed to early March. Then mid-March. Then pushed all the way back to mid-May! Ok, so that just won't work. I also tried searching everywhere I knew how for this fabric and it was out across the board. 

Onto plan B. I decided I would go with the smaller 1/8" check in the same colorway. While it isn't quite what I imagined, I still love a tiny gingham and I'm hoping these things work out the way they are supposed to! The fabric arrived this week and it is my goal to get them done this weekend. I had planned on having them made but I have decided on a fairly simple, relaxed style and it makes more sense for me to do it instead of paying and waiting...

When I was ready to buy the rods, the West Elm version I originally fell in love with was sold out, now it appears to be back in stock {go figure} so I frantically searched for something similar. I stumbled upon this simple rod and didn't even realize how similar it was until I placed them right next to each other. I have ordered the look for less, and hope it works out. The main difference to me is the finish, but it is so hard to tell shopping online anyway what either will look like in person. If the less expensive version doesn't work, I will just go back and order the original! They should be arriving soon.

Weeks got his new sheets, duvet cover and comforter for his birthday! Now all we need is his bed! His dresser {my Dad's old chest on chest} will be getting moved from Raleigh in the next few weeks, hopefully.

Once we have these big things in place I really feel like we can sort the rest of it out, get things in place and see what else needs to happen.

I also have had the Ikea rast hack finished for several weeks now, but I am waiting to have the drapes hung for the reveal! It turned out sooo good and I love. Definitely worth a little effort to get the campaign look! 

Keep your fingers crossed for me that the drapery panels will go smoothly this weekend!

Big Boy Room Plans

The time has come y'all...I can't believe my little baby will be transitioning over to a Big Boy room! I have thoroughly enjoyed his sweet little nursery for the last three years, and I want to give him an equally as special "Big Boy" room. Things are kind of up in the air because he will be totally switching rooms into the larger size bedroom, and that room is currently full of our stuff, other furniture, odds and ends. I am chipping away at it little by little to make room for him, his clothes{so many!}, toys {even more!}, and his furniture that we will be using. If I make one more trip to the thrift store to donate...whew! ;)

Here is what I have come up with so far: 

duvet cover // maritime sheet set  // campaign hardware // navy blue check fabric // magnet board // storage bins // metal rod

As you can see, a mix of patterns and some gold and neutral tones. The check will be the drapes, with a brass rod and I am oh-so-excited about those. Side note, if you have sourced a ready made drape in a 1 inch navy check, holler at your girl. It would be so much easier than getting them made or making them myself, by all means. I am so smitten with those sailboat sheets and I can see that sweet mop of blond curls on them now! The chambray will be the duvet cover...so classic boy to me. I think my brother might have had a chambray comforter growing up? If you follow me on insta, you saw the Ikea rast campaign sneak peek. I love that this will be a great source of storage. Weeks also has a three shelf bookcase that I would like storage bins to line it and be filled with his toys. The numbers are cute, right? A fun magnet board at his height will be super sweet. 

Not pictured are his bed, dresser, and possible nightstands; which will be a mix of white and wood tones. Stephen is planning on building Weeks a double bed, something sort of farmhouse style. We haven't begun that project yet. The dresser I am hoping to get from my parents- my Dad's old dresser that he isn't using anymore. It is a classic chest on chest style and I hope that works out. We also have a nightstand from the nursery we can bring in as well, with a fresh coat of paint.

That is it so far but I am loving the direction we are headed! So much to do, but I am so excited about this room for our darling boy. 

The Hunt: Watercolor Floral Fabric

I've been on the hunt for a watercolor floral fabric to base our bedroom design off of for some time now. I have this image in my head of what it must encompass and I still haven't found the one, but I think I am getting close. Here is what on my radar right now. Pretty much something that would include pink and lavender, nothing too abstract and nothing too Grandma-y. I'm thinking euros or even just one lumbar pillow. Our bedroom is pretty basic with a lot of white and I have to inject some color! So designer friends, please tell me where I can find some watercolor fabrics!! Pretty please!

Bedroom Daydreaming

I spent entirely way too much time in our bedroom over the last week. Nothing like a little quality time lying in bed staring at your drab walls to make you really want to get things looking better. I'm not going to take on any major projects at this stage in the pregnancy, don't worry. But I do have hopes to make some easy/inexpensive changes to our room to make it a more calming and comfortable space, this year. {I'm allowing myself plenty of time!}

Our master bedroom is the one room in the house that hasn't been touched since shortly after moving in and getting married. It's the only room in the house that hasn't been painted. Have I told you how much I despise the color? And here I am sleeping and dreaming in this room! I think Stephen is on board to paint the room before baby, if time allows. Fingers crossed. That will at least be a quick fix to brighten things up for the time being. The furniture is all collected pieces from both Stephen and myself....we both have childhood dressers, his four poster bed {which I love} and a vanity and rattan chest as nightstands. 

Since this project is still in the future and not immediate, I did a little daydreaming on beautiful bedrooms.

I should also mention that while working on the nursery, we've been chipping away at getting our guest room ready for guests. My parents will be here after Weeks is born and I want the space to feel complete. Room upgrades include a DIY headboard and a ton of organizing. I hope to get my act together and show you soon!
