New House Progress: Kitchen Cabinets Sneak Peak!

I can hardly contain my excitement over my refinished kitchen cabinet doors. This has been a seemingly really long work in progress, but an extremely cost efficient (cheap!!!) way of getting the doors we wanted. As long as you have access to a few tools and some spare time you are good to go. I am excited to share the process soon. If it helps one person achieve a better kitchen I am thrilled!

I have one QUICK question and I would love some weigh in on this topic:

Our upper cabinets are older and require a visible cabinet door hinge. I am trying to decide if I should just paint the old hinges the same color as the cabinets, merely for the purpose of concealing the look of the hinges; OR use brand new hinges in satin nickel that would match our new cabinet hardware. I like the idea of not seeing "hinges" everywhere but then again I don't want to see paint peeling and chipping on hinges in a few months. What do you think is best?

These two kitchens have visible nickel hinges and I don't mind them one bit.

And here is a beautiful kitchen with what looks to be painted hinges...

That's all for now y'all! And I might add, after staring at the interior of our cabinets....filled with pots, pans, cups, glasses and who knows what, I am not opting for open shelving anytime soon. At least not more than one really neat and defined shelf. That's just me. :)

I love the nickel! It adds just enough pop to the kitchen! Especially since even painted you notice the hinges. And like you said, do you really want to see paint peeling off in a few months? Because if you're like me then you'll just replace them anyways!

I vote for the nickel! It gives it a nice pop.

Your new cabinets look great!
Love the look of both in the photos but I think you're right about the peeling - it would drive me nuts too.

Please, please, please share your cabinet door secret! Ours look great and we really need to replace our 1950's cabinet doors on the cheap.

I never paint hinges....I guess it reminds me of apartments I lived in in my single days. I think the nickle looks classy and will always look fresh. The painted ones will chip and peel and just look like they were 'covered up'. If you like all white, does anyone make white hinges? I always say, if you can think of it, someone makes it!

They looks lovely in the first photo. Thanks for sharing.

Warmly, Kathleen

I've painted hinges before and they chipped so badly! Love that white;)

Love the sneak peak!! I say buy satin hinges and leave them exposed. The paint will just end up chipping off

I prefer the nickel and think you make a great point about paint chipping if you go that route!

When we sold our little house and moved into a bigger home, it really overwhelmed me at first how much bigger space we had. The bedrooms and living room were huge, and all our furniture looked lost. We spent the better part of the first year getting furniture to fill out the rest of the house so that it felt homely and cozy again.

What a great looking kitchen My wife and I had a similar idea when it comes to the color scheme. A lot can be done in a kitchen and I think we need to just start small so we don't over do it. We have a fixed budget so things must stay on the small side. Thank you for sharing.
