The Greenbrier in Photos

As most of you all know, we took an amazing vacation to the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in July. My sweet, generous in-laws surprised us with the news of the trip last Christmas. I have been here prior 3 times before throughout my childhood and have wonderful memories of the grand experience. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get back. This is a true photo overload, but I promise you there were -a ton- more I left off. I hope you enjoy!

Our humble abode.

We headed right out to the picturesque pool overlooking the golf course and breathtaking mountain views.

Garden lovers- you would love it here.

Watching our golfers tee off on the Championship course.

Meanwhile, the girls headed for the spa.

I spent a lot of free times wandering the halls, snapping photos.

Princess Grace in the background...

Carriage rides are available all day long.

The main dining room in all its glory...

Ginger Jars...my love language.

Downstairs holds more shops, a few restaurants and the Casino. Signature palm leaf wallpaper is here in full effect, so striking.

More wandering around with my camera...

No stone is left unturned...look at that classic iron railing.

A little blurry photo of us outside Drapers for lunch...

You can find palm carpet here lining the hallways too. The most comfortable shoes, I might add.

Happy Hour on the terrace.

Dessert every night, of course!

What I refer to as the Kate Spade room. Gimme. Gimme. Gimme.

Now THAT. is a cornice board.

You have to look up or you will miss more fine details. Intricate, delicate, grand chandeliers with more detailing on the ceiling than you've ever seen.

These prints are framed in the girliest, cutest bathroom ever. Inspiration right here.

Another one of my favorite rooms!

I'm obsessed with this painting- I wish I knew more about it.

On one of our last days we took a long hike through the property.

Many "Happy Hours" at the Greenbrier in Carleton Varney's bar....

Pausing for some pictures on our way to dinner...

Vacay wore this sweet boy out!

Here are some iphone snaps as well...

 Carleton Varney's office...

Gone with the Wind chandelier...

He didn't want to leave either...

Whew! What a recap- hope you all enjoyed! Have you even been to the Greenbrier?

Currently Loving: Summer to Fall

currently loving
Since we are somewhere in between seasons, so is this board. My mind says fall and my wardrobe and heat handling capabilities scream summer. Seriously, give me a break on the humidity here! Anyway, just a few pretties for you to think about for the weekend!

suede ankle strap sandal -just gorgeous, am I right? / marble print top - been wanting this for a while now / studded flats - I love this take on leopard and studded! / floppy hat - take 25% off / brass plated necklace - compliments every time I wear this! / vest - this color is so pretty and big for this season

Also, how do we feel about these tencel jogger pants (they are 40% off!). I think they would be great for road trips when you want to reach for something other than jeans or yoga pants!

Have a great weekend!

Foodie Faves: What's Always in Our Kitchen

Whoa, sorry for the radio silence over here. I never could fully catch up last week after Stephen's surgery. Then my family came into town and we spent some much needed time at the beach!!

Completely random, but I think it's a little interesting to see what people always have in their pantries and fridges. If you are like us, you always have certain staples around. For instance, when I go home to my parents house, I can always count on them having a fresh cookie from Whole Foods sitting on the counter, fresh parmesan cheese,  a variety of crackers- usually mini saltines and Wheat Thins, a drawer full of vegetables and lettuce, Lorna Doone cookies, chocolate chips, yogurt, and barbecue potato chips.
Here is what we keep on regular rotation at our house!

Greek Yogurt....
Usually for me or Weeks, I am recently trying the Siggi yogurt. More protein than sugar and still low in calories. Basically, its really, really good for you!

Mini Powdered Sugar Donuts....
We all eat these and I always have one before coffee or tea. I like something as soon as I get up and this holds me over til breakfast.

Tomatoes....
Especially in the summer time, we always have some sort of tomato variety on the counter!

Wheat Thins....
I especially love the air popped version, they are usually my cracker of choice.

Propel...
Stephen and I love to add this to our water. And I drink a ton of water so it's nice to have some flavor occasionally.

Shredded Cheese....
We always have a ton of shredded cheese, usually from the buy 3, get 2 free special that runs at Harris Teeter.

Oatmeal Creme Pies...
Weeks loves these!

Sprite...
We don't drink a lot of soft drinks but I always have Sprite on hand. I swear it helps with indigestion! Anyone that knows me well cracks up over my Sprite beliefs!

Eggs and Milk...
You know, the real staples!

Sour Cream...
I love some sour cream. Don't even think about giving me mexican food or a baked potato with out it!

Bananas...
We all eat these too, I bring one with me to work for a mid-morning snack.

Wine...
Because...wine.

What are your must haves?
Feel free to steal this post idea, I would love to see what items I should be stocking our kitchen with!

I have been so happy to hear from many of you that have been familiar with Rodan + Fields and are considering the products. I wanted to mention that this is a wonderful tool that allows you to get a really quick skincare evaluation based on your needs. It's like sitting down with a derm and discussing what you want to do with your skin! So cool. It took me about 30 seconds. I cannot wait to help you all!!! Yay!! As always, you can email me with any questions and I am more than happy to answer. This is still a major leap for me and I appreciate the feedback, comments, questions and support so much! PS- I am using Reverse with the Micro Roller {also available with out} and the Multi-Function Eye Cream. If you are not ready to start an entire regimen, give the Eye Cream a try! I'm one week in and I can tell a difference! {note: so popular this item is selling out}

Onto some Friday ramblings....

I'm all about no-cook recipes for summer meals, I definitely want to try some of these out.

Browse ten things from Target's dorm room collection you can use in your own home. I especially like this pouf

How good does this tomato grilled cheese look? Mmm.

Design Idea: Sansevierias

I know you've probable seen or heard of the "snake plant" but I had a really had a hard time letting the word "snake" be in a title on my blog, so I went with the scientific name!  No, we aren't talking about the nasty creatures though, just a little way to purify your air indoors and add a touch of green. I'm sure you've seen them around the web, but they are an up and coming little popular plant. Maybe the next fiddle fig? I don't know. But I do love them in these rooms and I purchased one as well.

We planted ours last weekend and I literally haven't touched the thing since and it looks great. Snake plants or "sansevierias" are known for being an extremely easy indoor house plant to take care of. They can take low levels of light, drought and be neglected for weeks at a time. They also remove toxins from the air such as formaldehyde and benzene. Sounds like the perfect houseplant right?

I put ours right next to our fireplace. Every now and then I can get a whiff of the fireplace when I walk by it because the former owners legit used the thing, even with a wood stove. We haven't used it and have had it cleaned a few times. Since I have put the snake plant next to it, I haven't noticed the smell. Pretty cool! Do you have one? What is your favorite house plant?

Also~ if you follow me on instagram (@missdixie30) you saw that we had a little scare with Stephen...to make a long story short he is having his gallbladder removed tomorrow morning. He had started having some really bad pains (mainly in the middle of the night) and that started rounds of bloodwork...an ultrasound...which led to an MRI. Thankfully, he just needs to have the surgery which is really common. We appreciate all your support and prayers so much already and as we have the surgery tomorrow!! Thank you, thank you!!! xoxo.

A new business venture....{and giveaway!!}

Well y'all, I can't wait to share today a biggg leap I made last week. This is something I did not take lightly and I thought about it a long, long time. Let me give you some background on me to start. My sweet mother-in-law owns an adorable gift and book {and clothing!} shop here in our town and I have been the manager for the last five years. I seriously, love my job. We go to market a few times a year, are always scouting the newest and best, and have a really fun working environment. It has been extremely wonderful to have a flexible environment while having a little one. I used to work five days a week, and now I am "in the office" a few and working from home the other days. That job is not going anywhere, it is a dream job really.

Let's switch gears. One thing I have really started to pay attention to over the last year is my skincare. I swear, once I turned the big 3-0 it was like I started noticing tiny baby wrinkles more and more. Being a tired Mommy doesn't help either ;) The ONE thing I have used in the past year that yielded amazing results was the Rodan and Fields line. There are four regimens for all sorts of skin needs and everyone can find one they fall into and see major results. I chose the reverse and it has been the one thing that has impacted my skin's appearance.

(after about 6 weeks of reverse I could really tell a difference in my skin tone)

I eventually ran out of my regimen and have missed it since {I do not recommend this! Totally pinching myself for letting that happen} Several months later, a good girlfriend from college contacted me asking if I had ever thought about the opportunity to be a consultant for the line. This was at Christmas, I was in the midst of big renovation projects and there was no way I was tacking that on my plate! Fast forward several months later, my Mom mentions to me she ordered Rodan and Fields {redefine regimen} and was excited to start seeing some results. For whatever reason, right around the same time was when I started re-thinking the whole consultant thing. After a good long nine months or so of thinking, I just decided to go for it. What do I have to lose? I made a small investment that I think will turn into something I can be proud of and work for, all at the same time helping others with their skin and my own. Win-win. Now, like I said, my management/buyer/merchandising job is not going anywhere- this is simply something I can do to fill in with extra pockets of time. And, lets be real, I will always want to provide for my family, and any way I can help to do that is extremely satisfying. I am considering myself very lucky to have two flexible jobs right now and still be able to spend time with my son and husband!

So, I am ready to jumpstart this business and really help others. HERE is my website :) Skin problems, wrinkles, blemishes, uneven skin? We can help. Please note prices on the site are retail, and when you sign up to be a preferred customer you are getting a discount, which I can discuss with you! HERE is a great site to see REAL results. You will absolutely have results with Rodan + Fields. I am NOT a fan of gimmicky sales things so please do not doubt me y'all, I swear! The team I am working under has been so helpful getting me started, there for every question and need. I know some people do these kinds of things just to sign someone on, but that is not the case here. If you are thinking about this kind of business at all, please message me!!! Here is a small example of why I joined this team. This is the former CEO of Smashbox Cosmetics and she is now in charge of her own R and F business. That's insane y'all! Here is what Rose Gall-Rojas has to say:

"I'm not saying normal is bad. I'm saying it's not all there is. I am thankful for change. Here's my new normal: No boss, no long commute, no glass ceiling, no office politics, no pink slips, no working through lunch at my desk, no 60-hour work weeks. I work to live instead of live to work, I vacation when I want, not when my boss says I can, I'm providing a will-able asset for my kids, I will retire worry-free, I give back in a bigger way than before, I volunteer for causes that I'm close to, I help others create the same thing for themselves and their families, and I'm happier."

Of course, don't worry nothing is really going to change on Miss Dixie. I love this little space I have created and can't thank y'all enough for returning to read each post. It really means so much to me. I promise it won't be changing, and I will wait for your feedback on what you would like to hear about in regards to R and F,  and there will be a button on my sidebar, and I might mention some great deals ever so often!

SO....In order to celebrate this new venture, I am doing a giveaway {duh, of course!} The giveaway is a set of 2 mini facials- one for you, one for a friend. Each facial includes a microdermabrasion packet, night renewing serum and lip renewing serum. The microdermabrasion is one of my favorite things ever! Please see below and feel free to email me with any comments or questions!!!
