Five Recipes for 2014

Happy Friday y'all! Today I'm bringing you five recipes I think we can all try since every single one of us is on that same bandwagon- eat healthy! I'll be the first to tell you it doesn't happen for me every day. There, I said it. Do we occasionally get fast food? Yes. Are we in time crunches or just cannot think of something healthy to eat at the end of the day?  Does that mean takeout? Yes. But, then there are other days that we eat pretty good. And as long as I'm shooting for more of those "good" days, then I'm happy with that.

Blueberry Mango Smoothie
This recipe is so simple for a delicious smoothie in the morning. Blueberries have so many benefits and I think paired with mango it would be delicious!

I love that this smoothie uses almond milk. The smoothies I have made before have used yogurt, which make it thicker. I can't wait to try this version!

For those nights when the husband really wants some wings...these are baked, not fried and made with out any butter!

Stephen and I try to partake in meatless Monday. I really don't mind missing meat at all, but the hubs is a little different. I'm hoping I can make him these black bean wraps, maybe at least for lunch.

These are my favorite turkey burgers, but I've never mentioned them on the blog before. They are packed with flavor and the sauce is delicious. Let me know if you try them! And of course, you could always sub the bun for lettuce to make them even healthier.

Linking up with the ladies of Five on Friday! Hope y'all enjoy the first weekend of 2014!

My Not So Green Smoothie

A little late to the party, but I finally gave the green smoothie a go!

I followed this diagram....

(I had a hard time sourcing this correctly)

And picked the following to try for the first time:

-Spinach
-Banana
-Raspberries
-Vanilla Nonfat Yogurt

The verdict:
Loved the way it tasted!
The color, not so pretty. In fact, it wasn't green at all. I followed the proportions correctly but I think the raspberries changed the color. I couldn't believe how there are 2 cups of hidden spinach in there. Totally can't even tell in the slightest. I would have a hard time eating 2 whole cups of spinach in a salad, so this is major! I just prefer my salads in smaller portions, I don't love to eat a gigantic salad.

The second day I made the smoothie I upped the spinach a little and went a little less on the raspberries and yogurt. I actually preferred it this way (and the color was a little more green!) I kept Stephen's with more raspberries since he was still a little uneasy he was having a "salad fruit smoothie" for breakfast.

My only concern is that it seems rather expensive compared to my usual breakfast! That breakfast, as in cereal, granola, yogurt etc. We got 4 smoothies out of one bag of frozen raspberries, one container of spinach, one large container of yogurt, and one bundle of bananas (with a few to spare). Any tips on that? Do you make green smoothies and what is your favorite combo?

Healthy Snacking

I'm always up for a snack and I tried these out this past weekend, a healthy yet sweet and tasty treat!

I found the recipe for Blueberries dipped in Greek Yogurt on pinterest, found here. And that is literally what you do, dip each blueberry with a toothpick into honey Greek yogurt and freeze! {Freeze first on a cookie sheet, then transfer to storage} An added bonus for the Greek yogurt- a little bit of protein in each bite.

I separated mine into three separate baggies for snacks to take to work {keep in the freezer!} and one resealable container for when we are at home and want a bite size treat.

It doesn't get much easier than that for a healthy snack. Note: they do melt fairly quick {think 5 minutes or so} and they are meant to be eaten right out of the freezer.
What are your tips for a twist on fresh healthy snacks?

xoxo.
