One Room Challenge: Week One

Oh my goodness, I literally just got nervous as I typed those three little words "One Room Challenge" because I know exactly how challenging that one room is in one short month! I also know how rewarding it is at the end...keeping my eyes on the prize here people! If you follow me on a regular basis, you know I have mentioned our Hall Bathroom Remodel over the past few months. It all started out as a simple paint job....that spawned into new floors, new countertops, mirrors, etc. We called it quits about a month ago because we were so tired of it and we also needed to clean up for having guests over for Weeks' birthday party.

So now, I would like to take the challenge to finish up this Hall Bath...trust me there is PLENTY to do! I hope no one thinks I'm cheating...I only wish this project was well wrapped up by now!

Starting from the beginning, this is what the bathroom looked like a few months ago after we decided to start tearing it apart.

And here we are now... {sorry for the really bad photos, I also need to figure out how to photograph in here with poor lighting!}

I know she has come a long, long way but I pretty much stopped after we got the essentials done. Now it needs some fancying up! Here is whats on our agenda:

WALL TREATMENT

We really want to do a shiplap {planked wall} treatment in here that goes somewhere up to mid-mirror height. I love, love, love planked walls and the bare drywall is crying out for some attention. Maybe even do something above the planking, wallpaper or a stencil?

SHOWER
The beige tiled shower is in need of either a refinishing or a gutting. The showerheads are so overly outdated, they have to go. But, apparently it is hard to find the configuration of faucet knobs like we have, so if we can't find a decent replacement then that might warrant new tile because of the different holes. The tile itself is in good shape, for the most part, so I wouldn't mind a tile transformation kit...but again, that might be out of the cards if we have problems with the knobs.

HARDWARE
I'm not totally happy with the hardware situation {it is impossible to order matching brass finishes online!!!!!} so I would like to figure that situation out. Also, we have a funky shape cabinet door that only allows like one type of hinge on the planet, so we have to use them. They only make one finish in the hinge and it doesn't match. So do I spray the hinges to match the doors? You can see below the brass hardware doesn't match the bright brass hinges. Also, I could only find hinges that don't automatically close the doors, so the doors are swinging open all the time. So we either need to use a different hinge that self shuts and spray paint that to match the doors, or we need to add a piece of hardware that makes the doors stay shut. The doors also need some touching up from their makeover, I will detail their process soon on how I achieved the shaker look!

SHOE MOULDING
We need shoe moulding in here to hide the imperfections around the baseboard and tile. That will really finish things off on the floor and I can't wait.

ART/SHELVING ETC
I don't know how I want to spiff up the walls, but I need something! There is a space between the mirrors that is aching for a shelf, sconce something...what would you do?

SHOWER CURTAIN
I bought a basic white waffle shower curtain when we were doing a bare bones remodel just to freshen it up. I think I want to add a tassel trim to it.

RUG
I would love a pretty rug that can take some abuse with foot traffic. This bathroom serves as a hall bath and bathroom for Weeks, so a basic white bath mat doesn't seem to cut it.

There you have it, we've got our work cut out for us! Did I mention we have three trips planned for the month of April? Stephen almost, almost lost it when I told him we were throwing this into the mix. Love you honey.

Can't wait to see what everyone else is up to this time around!! Head on over here to check it all out. This is going to be fun.
Thanks so much for tagging along.

So happy Stephen is being a good sport about it (for now at least)! :) Ugh, I would have stalled out too, I hate those details that aren't fun, but I know you'll be so excited to have a stylish and functional room!

There is no cheating, everyone can do whatever they want. The goal is to do what you can and have fun. This is an ambitious project, and you have until May 7th. Nice to see you, here. Looking forward to the tassel on the curtain.
