I even keep one in my kitchen. I just take it outside and hose it down when it gets dirty. Persians are the most expensive but most of them also carry beautiful rugs in the traditional style you are looking for from China, India or Pakistan that are much more reasonably priced (comparable to pottery barn pricing). They are made to last for generations and cleaning is easy too- our local shop will clean any stain for free.
